The Actor #1

Posted by jackiepope on September 9, 2016

I have to say the first, because there have been quite a few thespians through the doors of my shops. And this one I will call Dai (welsh).

He came into my shop in St Kevin’s Arcade as large as life; this is the first time that I have met someone who ‘fills the space’. I think if it had been the town hall, it would have felt ‘filled up’.

Black jeans, white shirt; scarf around his neck; black hair; and about 45 years old, maybe pushing 50. Not sure.

He looked me in the eye and said he could not afford a reading, but needed one. Would I be open to giving him a reading and in exchange he would recite/perform any poem I wished out in the arcade.

At the time there was a café in the arcade called ‘Alleluia’, and it was full of people being lunchtime. I agreed.

I gave him his reading, and he escorted me outside the shop; I sat down at one of the tables and what came next was probably one of the most amazing things…

I had a poem I loved – The Ancient Mariner; but I also loved Under the Milkwood by Dylan Thomas. I had once heard it read by Richard Burton. It was magical.

He performed both for me. In the middle of Karangahape road I was transported to that painted ship upon a painted ocean; and I was taken back to the welsh village. His voice was mesmerizing; very deep, very rich. I was not aware of anyone else in the café at all; although it was full. And when he had finished there was silence then a wave of applause and cheers. But during the performance I was the only one there; and it was purely for me.

He walked me back into my shop. Smiled and walked out, never to be seen again. I will never forget that performance.

Day 1 – I’m here

Good morning all of you in Open House

As many of you know I am house sitting in Kerikeri for two to three weeks. What some of you do not know is that I am using it as a time to get a book finished, to get one started, to create some jewelry, to get into ‘art’ crochet, and to get some fantastic new tarot stuff for you all.

I will be doing a series of shamanic journeys, this is the perfect place, through those journeys I hope to find exciting, new places for us to go.

Also as some of you have noticed that since chemo my gift has become, well, to say the least more open, deeper; I am not sure why or how, but this seems the time to explore it, and see how far it takes me.

I will be writing in this space regularly – I will not say that I will do it daily, because like the ‘no coffee, no zero’ resolution – I don’t want to say I will and then not fulfill. I’ve learned that lesson in the first 24 hours.

However, it is work as usual with readings, so keep me busy – it is probably the perfect time to have an in depth reading, and I could explore tailoring something that you would like, and of course a price that suits. I have a couple of clients whom I do this for, they like things in a certain style and certain content, I love it. So it is your chance. Private Message me with anything that you might like to do.

My view this morning is spectacular. There are magpies, ponies, lambs, cows, a dog, a funny little man in the paddock next door, and the most beautiful flax and treescape.

I also see the clouds piling up, moving in towards each other, starting an argument with each other. What a treat – clear view of it all. And a covered deck so I can sit outside and be in it, but not get wet…. but hang on… there is nothing to stop me dancing in the rain.

Come dance this 14 day journey with me, goddess knows what will happen, or where it will take me, but if you want to come along you are welcome, and if you don’t then just ignore the posts….

Love you all, blessings and unicorns… I am sure there is a unicorn out here… somewhere..

Signs and Symbols

Good morning friends, clients and those yet to make up their minds.

It is Friday – no kidding! And so I thought I would start my little ‘vignettes’, I was going to video them, but I also thought that writing is so much easier for me (and of course it is all about me) and you can cut and paste the stuff if you want to keep it. I will be posting this on the website as well.

A short while ago a friend posted a praying mantis that had landed on her pillow, and I jokingly commented that this must be an omen because praying mantis females eat their mates after copulating. And she suggested I write something about signs and omens.

So here we go… Signs and Omens come into our lives to make sure we take notice of something in particular. A feather is in our pathway, a hawk flies over the car on a road trip, a butterfly lands on your shoulder, a dragonfly hovers around your head. These are all signs. They are signs that something is about to happen, about to change. And the simple act of acknowledging them opens our mind and heart to the concept that something is happening. We do not always need to know what is happening, just to be aware that it is happening. And to relax into it.

There are other signs that are more pointed. If you are thinking of travelling somewhere and suddenly everywhere you go there are advertisements and documentaries about that place, and suddenly there is a drop in air fares and accommodation at the time you want to go – this is a sign you should go.

Signs and omens come in all forms, and the art of recognizing them and interpreting them has been lost in the depths of time. But it is not a hard thing to train yourself to notice them, and to use them to your advantage.
The trick is to understand when something is just what it is, and not an omen or a sign. And when you first start doing this you think everything is a sign – well it isn’t and you will soon get into the flow of how omens and signs work for you – they are different for everyone. It is a matter of getting to know your personal energies and how the Goddess shows you the pathways.
You may have a personal symbol, perhaps a peace sign, the Ohm sign, and you see it appear in the oddest of places – that is the Goddess drawing your attention to that thing, there is something here for you – check it out. In the old days the gypsies carved or chalked symbols into trees and bridges, rocks to let other travellers know if this was a good place to stop, or whether they should move onwards.

Don’t look for signs, that is the killer; if you look you will over-think and over-analyse. Go about your daily business, and be observant. Being observant and looking are two totally different things of course. Observe, know your territory, know how you walk through your life, who is in it, what the landscape is like, what the energy is from day to day. Then when something is different – you will notice it. And that is a sign.

You might wake up one morning and find the sky is dark, and unusual and that can be an omen of something that is about to happen – odd skies are a sign of earthquakes, storms. To wake up and find the tyres of your car all flat – an omen that you should not go to work? Well if the next thing that happens is that you cannot get the tyres fixed until 4pm is definitely telling you not to go to work.

One thing happening is usually enough when you get into the groove, but there are times when we receive more than one ‘hit’. You walk to work and your heel breaks, you go home to change, and then spill coffee on your dress. Take note of those things.

You may have made some decisions in life and are travelling down a pathway and find that there are blocks at every turn, something stops you moving forward every single step you take. So stop for a moment and add up the signs, perhaps you are not meant to be going this way. It is like driving somewhere and coming across roadworks – you can go through them and it will be difficult and the road may be closed at the end of it; or you can take the detour and find that the journey is so much easier.
Now some of you will look at signs and omens in a different. This is my ‘take’ on signs, and of course there is so much more to it, and if you would like to learn more – let me know. These articles are short and to give you a little insight into my wyrd world.

Oh and by the way, everyone should have a symbol that represents them. Mine has always been the three celtic cats, also oak leaf and acorn. What is your symbol? If you don’t have one, why not create one – create a signature symbol. Having a personal symbol is a powerful thing.

If there are oak trees somewhere I go, I know it’s a good omen, a good sign. I’m sure you get the gist.

Time Travel

Wyrdsisters is 16 years old tomorrow – 16th February 2016, and there have been many memories.

So take a trip down memory lane with me:

Wyrdsister’s TIme Travel – St Kevins Arcade
The picture on my header is The first St Kevin’s Arcade shop after it was painted. There was an artist who hung around the arcade, and he did all the chalk board for the cafes. It was all very casual, and in cash of course. And he did not want to be paid all in one hit – as he said he would just go and drink it. So the shop front took a while to do – it was on his terms, and it was well worth it. This photo is not complete, there was lettering on the top and all sorts of detail, but I do not have a photo of it finished sadly.
He told wild stories while he painted. I am not sure what was true and what was false, and really it did not matter.
Another moment in St Kevins was a Beltane evening and we were having a ritual in Myers Park, and there was going to be a party in the shop afterwards; and it turned out that Alleluyah cafe was having a choir recital. Of course we worked out logistics and timing, and we promised not to be noisy until after the recital. What happened was magical….
About ten of use went down the stairs to Myers Park and we had the most awesome ritual in the oak trees, not realizing that guests at Alleluyah were watching us! The choir had arrived, and as we finished and came up the steps the choir stood around the stairwell and sang. You can imagine – we were all in cloaks, full medieval drag, swords and make up _ we had all been face painted… actually my boobs were painted with a pair of gorgeous red dragons, and if I recall I had waist length braided hair.
We disappeared into the shop for cake and ale, and listened to the choir. When they had finished their evening, ours began and it was quite a raunchy, earthy kind of party.
But that was what Karangahape Road was all about in those days – worlds collided – the conservative, beautiful angelic choir, and the down to earth druids and witches…. and it all worked perfectly.
I love Time Travel.
